News to Help your Business

Welcome to 2023! We hope it will be a great one for you!

In order to help you be as successful as possible, we need to make you aware of some unfortunate issues and security concerns we are currently facing. As always, feel free to contact us for help in any way you might need.

Fraud Accounts
Recently we have seen an increase in the number of accounts being requested using fraudulent ID, Void Cheques and fake business information. Some have been from real businesses using fake ID and voids.

If they do get an account setup, they usually try to drop their (Clover, not Dejavoo) terminal into your business and steal yours. This means that your sales would go into their account. They close the account shortly after and it becomes a nightmare trying to get the funds back. Or refunds on your terminal are processed to a gift card.

Makes sure that you keep your terminal(s) secure. Make sure they are password protected. Make sure they are not left sitting out were a customer can switch or take it. Your terminal should have a Payplus Logo on it. And it should have a TID sticker and MID/Help Sticker on the back. If not, contact us to get you fresh ones. Make it harder for them to switch it out on you every way possible.

Watch your information!
Be wary of anything sent to you requesting Information regarding your Account, terminals, or processing. Any bank changes, or contact changes need to be processed through Payplus. Do not contact Fisrv/FirstData directly. If they call you, have them contact us before giving out any information. We recently had a case where a merchants‘ email was hacked. This allowed the hacker to try and change the email access for the Clover Portal…which opens up the issue of fake refunds. As well, they used the information to try to change the bank account! Be very careful what information you have stored. Make sure you have signed up for 2 factor authentication for any on-line activity. If you get Clover notices abut authorizing changes, or allowing changes or just stating a change was made when it wasn’t requested by you, contact us immediately!

Chargebacks

Watch for any chargeback notifications and respond to them immediately. Delaying the response may mean you lose hard earned sales earnings. Make sure you keep copies of information for any sales that are out of the ordinary. Foreign sales, large sales, called in sales, all are possible issues. Make sure to ask for a copy of a drivers License and or other ID if anything seems suspicious at all. You are well within your rights to request it for security purposes.

We hope this email helps you be prepared to prevent fraud and issues. We don’t intend to scare you with this, but rather make sure you are best able to prevent issues. If ever any doubt, or you need assistance, please contact us ASAP:
